Fun way to dress up inexpensive wooden spoons.  Plasti-dip is made to coat tool handles but is totally non-toxic once it is dry.  You can custom mix your own colors too!  I will be dipping everything in this stuff!  Diana

More Scripture Covers

New group of little ones getting baptized this year!  These were handed out at our Great to be Eight program.Simple paperback scriptures were covered with scrapbook paper.

Coordinating paper and their names decorate the front of each child's book.

 I tried to pick papers that I thought would match their personalities.

Bright colors and robots for the boys.....

A little glitter paper for the girls.....

This one was for a little rock star.....no one will have any trouble mistaking whose scriptures these belong to.Diana

Stained Ties? Tutorial: Turning them into a boy's tie.

My husband has this little (BIG) problem with staining his ties. I am not sure how he does it, but most of them end up with dry erase marker slashes or who knows what else all over them. I think I have come up with a way to salvage these ties. 

 My 8 yr old loves to wear his dad's ties, but they are always WAY to long and we end up having to tuck the tail into his shirt.  He will be thrilled when he sees what I came up with.

 Cut off the bottom portion (or stained portion).  It was approx. 7 inches in this case.  Unpick the back seem about 6" up the back of the tie. 

 Turn this bottom area inside out and pin together along the bottom.  Make sure to measure and mark the center.  This will become the new point of the tie.

 Sew up at a 45 degree angle from the center point.  Do the same thing on both sides.  Trim really carefully. This will ensure crisp corners when you turn it right side out.

 Turn right side out through the slit up the back.  I ironed at the point.  I placed a towel over the tie and made sure the fabric would iron OK by testing on the scrap I cut off.  Whip stitch the back seam closed making sure that you are catching the lining of the tie with each stitch. 

Just think of the possibilities.  If you find a tie you love, buy two-one for Dad and one for Son.

Sweet Treat

Sorry for the fuzzy pics lately. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Hope you can see how sweet this candy bar wrapper is. The butter fly is from the Serenade cartridge for Cricut.

As you can see in this pic, the butterfly is dimensional. I used some floral stamen for the antennae. The young lady who received this seemed so happy with the extra effort I put into it. Diana

CTR Cookies

Do you need a cookie for a child's baptism? This CTR shield (choose the right) is perfect for just such an occasion! The cookie is about 4 inches tall. I first outlined the blue edge and let it sit for a minute. Then I flooded the edge with this pretty blue.

The center is flooded in a pale gold and while it was still wet I piped the CTR (wet on wet) so the letters are flat on the surface. Hope these inspire the children (and adults) to choose the right! Note: added April 2012-You can purchase a Ctr cookie cutter from this etsy shop. I don't have this one but it looks very similiar to the one I have and I haven't seen any other ones availble for sale.

Robot Scripture Covers

I've done some crazy scripture covers but these have got to be the craziest! Robots!

That's what the boy asked for so that's what he is getting. I bet there isn't another kid with scriptures quite like these.

These papers were all part of a coordinated pack. I fussy cut out the robots and shadows.

CTR Baptism Towel

We are having another baptism in our family, this time a grandson, and I love making and giving a baptism towel. On this blog we have shown several different versions and here is one more. I found an adorable CTR shield that was perfect! Love the font!  Unfortunately it is no longer available.....so sad......

A total of about 10 minutes and a very special gift is totally completed. Diana

Watermelons and Ladybugs

Summer is getting closer and closer! Here in Ohio we are already seeing the ladybugs and it won't be long before I am starting my seedling for the garden. So how cute are these little hair inchies that beg summer to hurry and get here! Made out of felt, these designs are available from GG Designs.

I don't remember where I got this design. The leaf barrette cover is from GG.

Here are all the ones I made yesterday. The bunnies will be great for Easter. How bright and cheerful these will look in the hair of one of our cuties! Diana

Scripture Covers

I have made these before but I thought I would post this year's Great to Be Eight scripture covers anyway. I used paperback scriptures and covered them in scrapbook papers (cardstock). Such an inexpensive way to make a very personal gift for the eight year olds who will be getting baptized.

I did alot of inking this time! I like they way it softens the edges. Diana

Scripture Tote

Here is another scripture tote that I just made up. It is fully lined and has a ton of pockets inside! I made it a little larger because it is for an adult and I wanted extra room for the RS and Sunday School manuals.

The "C" was appliqued with my embroidery machine so it was a snap! I love the rose fabric and now want a tote just like this one. That always happens. Diana

Another CTR Towel

Taking a clue from Jennifer's earlier appliqued CTR towel, I did this one on my embroidery machine. I am still learning how to operate it! This design is actually two designs combined. The shield was online and the alphabet is built into my machine. I really love the simplicity of the design.

One cool thing I learned...water soluble stabilizers is laid on top of the towel so the terry cloth doesn't cause problems and it tears away very easy so I didn't have apply water to it! Diana

Another Candybar Wrapper

I did this wrapper for a baptism on Sunday. It is a rainy day so it was difficult to find a spot with a little natural light. This is a giant candy bar that I did in muted shades of peach and green. The message on the bottom says congrats from Beyond Birthdays and the flower is from Walk in My Garden. I inked the edges in white to soften the whole thing. Diana

Towel for Justin

My nephew is getting baptized next week. We haven't seen him for years, but we wanted to send him something special to know we were thinking of him. I appliqued CTR onto a nice fluffy towel for him to use after he is baptized. I simply printed out a CTR shield that I located by searching LDS clipart and used double sided fusible interfacing to attach it to the towel. I finished it off by zigzagging around the edges. March's Baptismal Gifts

One of the funnest parts of being in Primary is going to the eight year olds' baptisms and bringing little gifts for the children. Here are the ones for this month. I tried my hand at sock cupcakes. It took a little practice because the socks were small and thin. Not like the big fluffy ones I will show you on a later post. This one is using two little girl socks with a lace edge.

Book of Mormon Covers

This Sunday is our ward's Great to be Eight program. I needed something to give to the children that would be turning eight soon and therefore ready for baptism. I had seen Book of Mormon covers similar to these on a craft blog a while back and knew I had to make them!

First I cut out a 7 x 10.5 piece of cardstock which I attacked to the book with sticky tape and glue. Some of the images are from Graphically Speaking and the others from A Child's Year. The name tags are accented with brads. Can't wait to hand them out! Diana
