Honey Bee Pitcher

Some more etching---this time an old (as in just plain old not vintage) pitcher that I picked up years ago and never really used.

 I love honey bees......so it was a no brainer to put one on the side.  Etching is one of the easiest crafts to personalize glass.

Now this pitcher is sooo much cuter.

From Ugly To Fancy

How often have you seen one of these ugly vanity trays at garage sales and turned your nose up at it?  Me too!!!

Then I thought there must be something of value left in these old gals....

I found one that was really bad, the mirror was scratched and tarnished, the metal starting to rust at the corners, in other words, perfect!

 First I took it apart and replaced the back with a new piece of cardboard (covered in a pretty pink chevron fabric).  Then I painted the frame a bright pink.

 Since the mirror was so bad I thought I would etch an image on it.....a sweet bird!  What was once a piece destined for the dumpster is now ready for a second life.  I think this is now so pretty and cool!

Make Your Own Apothecary Jar

I have been looking at apothecary jars at the store for a while now. They seem to come in two types. Lovely, heavy weight glass that is very expensive or less expensive ones made of very light weight glass. While I loved the prices of the cheaper ones, the glass feels so fragile I am afraid they would break too easily. So why not make my own out of heavy pieces that don't cost much! And I can also do a little glass etching to make it very personal and custom. Here is how it turned out! I like it so much I think I will be making more in different sizes!

I got the candle stick and kitchen container at Walmart. Both are made from very heavy glass and the shapes were compatible.

I glued the two together with e-6000 and let sit for about 4 hours.

Next I cut out my initial from vinyl.

Etching cream. 15 minutes. Wash off. Instant gratification.

I swear this looks so expensive! Now the only problem is what to fill it with! Diana

Subway Art Candy Dish

I am a little slow at trends. The whole subway art thing almost passed me right by! I thought it was cool but couldn't find the time or wall space for a huge project like that. Then it hit me! I could do a candy dish and be oh so trendy....if you ignore the fact that the trend is months old! So I got this very heavy (the glass is thick) dish at Walmart for a few bucks and got out my cricut, etching cream and vinyl. I did the layout on Design Studio. Used Lyrical Letters, Wedding, Printing 101 and Plantin Schoolbook.

I did the etching on the inside of the dish. Next time I will do it on the back but you have to remember to do a mirror image thing and I forgot.......

Because the dish is so heavy, I think it has an expensive look going! Not bad for less than 4 bucks! Diana

Just A Few More

Still coming up with ideas for the RS class on cheap and easy gifts. This one is both. This is an example of more glass etching. Take a throw away vase from the florist and etch some cute little bunnies chasing each other around the center. No need to worry about exact spacing cuz bunnies don't care!

Easter Jar

It should have been easy. Just glass etch a bunny on a jar and throw in some candy...what could be easier? A little ribbon on the lid and a cute little fuzzy chick.....so sweet and simple. Til it came time to put the candy in that is. Did I mention this was to be the take home craft for the RS Birthday Party? A simple craft for all skill levels and budgets. Empty, the jar looks great so I go to put the candy in and guess what. The bunny disappears with any "busy" filler. Jelly beans....too busy, M&M's.....too busy. Trip to Walmart to find something to display in the jar for church tomorrow. Nothing looked right except maybe a jar full of sugar (not too busy but who gives someone a jar of sugar for a gift?). So I slipped a square of paper behind the bunny so at least you can see it!!!

From behind it looks kind of cute! But the whole project is about teaching how to glass etch! Any suggestions? I feel a headache coming on. Diana
