Our Little Trailer

I told you I would be letting you all in on another change around here......I have decided to let our little trailer find a new home.  As fun as she was to restore we really aren't using her like we thought we would.  It is hard to let her go but we have so many other things going it just makes sense to sell her.  I don't know yet the best forum to use, ebay or one of the online sites specializing in vintage trailer sales, but in the next month or so she will be off on a new adventure.  To see more pics check out these previous posts here and here.

Almost Done with Trailer Exterior!

Just a quick post to show the finished exterior paint job on the trailer.  It took a long time to get this done and an enormous amount of tape and drop cloth. 

We kept the original color theme and used automotive paint for durability and shine..  A little more trim work and she will finally be ready to hit the road ( and maybe a car show or two for fun).

Vintage Picnic Quilt

I made myself a quilt!  I know, I've made a lot of quilts that I have shared with you on this blog.  They are usually a gift for a new baby or sick friend.  I also make them for family members.  I guess I have made a few dozen over the last few years.  But I rarely make one for myself.....

 When I started this quilt I wondered who I would give it to.  I loved the fabric and colors sooo much.  Then it occurred to me that if I like it so much there was no reason why I couldn't keep it!  More specifically, I could use it in my vintage trailer as a lap quilt.  Yippee!

 I used fabric from Moda's line Vintage Picnic and a red gingham I had in my stash.  The backing is a red and white chevron fabric.

 Machine quilted it on my domestic machine using Westalee ruler foot and shell template.

I seriously loooove how easy it was to use and how smooth the quilting looks.  Might have to do a post on the ruler foot and templates.........

Here is a pic of the backing.  This quilt is so cheerful!  I can't wait to take the trailer out this summer and cuddle with this quilt while reading a good book and eating chocolate.......mmmmm.

Free Vintage Camper Silhouette Design File

I have been having a lot of fun lately designing Silhouette files and learning how to use the designer studio.  Yesterday I found out it has a weld feature....duh!  Am I the only one how didn't know that....

Anyway, here is one of the designs I made a few days ago that I am sharing with all of you so enjoy!

Old Fashion Crocheted Potholders

In between bigger projects I have been turning out these vintage looking potholders!

 It has been fun searching for patterns that I could whip up fast but would teach me new stitches. 

 I love the granny square potholder and the little red and white one that I made up as I went along.

 Who wouldn't love these color combos.

The simple pale green potholder was just as fun to make as the more elaborate one on the right.

I haven't yet decided what to do with these cuties......maybe they would look good in our vintage camper.......on tucked into baskets with home made goodies for friends?

Camper's First Overnighter

In the yesterday's post I showed you some of the projects we completed at the cabin in preparation for Girl's Pre-camp.  Today I will show you a few pictures of A Frayed Knot on her first over-nighter.  My daughter Jenn and her husband stayed in the camper during pre-camp while the other adults and the girls stayed in the cabin or in tents.

 Here is the camper all set up.

 The couch was turned into a bed with soft white sheets and an antique quilt.  The suitcases that normally serve as night stands tuck under the bed.

The camper was parked in the field near the cabin.  After setting everything up we took our grandson to the airport and did a fly over.

You can just make out the cabin just off the wing.  It was a lot of work to get everything ready but I love a dead line.  You always seem to get so much more done when you are under pressure.  And we were so glad to be able to share our getaways with the sweet young women in our daughter's ward.

1963 Yellowstone Camper

After a long day of work yesterday (and weeks of hard work in the last few months!) the inside of the trailer is done!  Yippee!  Here is what now greets me at the door.....

Just in case you have forgotten what we started with, the next few pictures should remind you.

 Old cushions and rickety table.

 Dark and dingy just about summed it up.

 But now she is so pretty!  Fresh white paint, refinished appliances, quilted back splash and all the previous projects have really made her shine.

 The stove and ice box took a lot of sanding and prep but it was so worth it.  My husband is an expert at getting a perfect finish with automotive paint.  And he was able to cut a hole in the stainless steel back splash for the outlet cuz he has so many skills.  Mechanic, machinist, restorer, you name it, he can do it!

 The couch/bed area looks so comfy now.

 Here is the dining room.  Hubby hung the new hardware for the table and it works so much better than the old banged up one.  With vintage table cloths and a few accessories, this area just makes me smile!

 The table sleeps one as does the crows nest.  All in all we can sleep 4 adults or who knows how many little ones.

 We kept the old sink, formica counter and table top and the original floors.  They were just in too good of shape to do anything with them!

 A Frayed Knot certainly describes our mindset when we first started out on this project!

One last picture of the dining room.  I know we will continue to finesse the decor in here, plus we still need to start on the huge project of the exterior, but for now she is just perfect the way she is.  Plus we have a ton of projects to do at the cabin this next week (really all summer).  Hope you have enjoyed seeing what we have done with our little A Frayed Knot!

Update on Our Cute Little Vintage Camper

I have been so busy lately getting our "A Frayed Knot" glamped up.  A few coats of shinny white paint and some new details really brightened her up!  Check out the pics below.....

Here is the dining area.  The table hasn't been installed because I have apparently "misplaced" the wall bracket that holds it up.  I ordered a new one months ago but put it away for safe keeping and now can't find it...... I will find it eventually but until then it is driving me nuts!   Oh well.  The crows nest looks so fresh and clean now and not dark and scary like before.

 Here is one of the night stand/suitcases near the fold out couch.

  In case you forgot here is a before photo.  Not bad but not good either.

The kitchen still has some work that needs to be done.  I will be painting the stove and icebox with teal automobile engine paint soon.  We also have a cool quilted stainless steel back splash to put up.

 I added some decorative elements on the kitchen's upper cabinets.

 The old mirror was in terrible shape so we picked up this cute polka dot mirror from Ikea.  It is smaller but the dots were so fun we couldn't resist.

 The world's tiniest closet also got a makeover.

 I am probably going to paint the sink in the same teal paint I will be doing the rest of the appliances in.  The floor is original and is in pretty great shape so no plans to replace it just yet.
