My son's ex-wife Carolyn, and the mother of my three wonderful grandsons, gave me this sweet little gift! Among some candies was tucked this jar of homemade vanilla sugar and some herbal teas.Such a lovely treat. Especially here in the Midwest during this latest round of freezing temperatures.
Ingredients
1 vanilla bean, whole or scraped
2 cups granulated sugar (Carolyn used raw sugar which I think is much prettier)
Directions
If vanilla bean is whole, slice down side of bean with back of knife and scrape seeds into airtight container with the sugar. Bury bean in sugar and seal tightly with lid. Let sit for 1 to 2 weeks. Use as regular, granulated sugar in hot beverages or as sprinkles on baked goods.
