Pocket Aquarium Out of Polymer Clay

Another project from Pinterest.  I have been on a polymer clay kick lately, I know.
Here is the original pin link.  Once you see the pin you will be tempted to give it a try too.  And, by the way.  tell me why tiny things are so stinking cute?
I covered the tin with clay and embossed it with water like swirls.
This took three days to make but most of the time was waiting for the resin to dry.  The first day I made all the rocks, animals and reeds out of clay.  Do you see the funny little poly wogs?  Then I poured a small layer of blue tinted resin in the bottom of the tin and embedded all the objects (once they were baked).  I had to let the resin dry 24 hours before I could add another layer of clear resin.  Another 24 hours to dry.  Done.  You can carry this in your purse to entertain a child or, as in my case, yourself.  I am easily entertained.

Sushi Cats

Do you ever crave sushi?  Yeah, me too!  Especially if it is as cute as this kitten sushi.  Unfortunately this sushi is made out of polymer clay not rice.
I saw some pillows that inspired this project.  The source is not available so you can't get the pillows from that link.  So sad.  But you can make this sushi to hold you over.......

Yummy.

The Witch is Dead Bookmark

Have you seen this on Pinterest yet?  It seemed like a do-able polymer clay project and let's be serious ---it cracks me up just looking at it!
I tracked it down to Oops, I Craft my Pants (another crack me up moment please).  I loooved the vintage witches she puts on her bookmarks.  I added just a pit of lacy petticoat too.  She painted on her stripes but I made mine out of clay, hence the wonky stripes.
But if you just had a house fall on you, your stockings might be crooked too!
Now my only worry is.....does anyone read paper books anymore?

Santa's Magic Key

What do you do if you don't have a chimney for Santa to come down?  Hang a magic key on your front door of course. Here are two versions of the Santa's Magic Key that I made up this past weekend.

For this one I made a fimo Santa belly, complete with a belt and buckle.  Both have old skeleton keys on ribbons.  I got the keys at auctions over the past year.  The poem was available on the Internet.  Just google magic Santa key poem and a number of them will come up!  Now Santa will have no trouble getting into your house to deliver presents!  Diana

Skeleton Cameo

Would you wear this brooch?  Or are you a scaredy cat.
Made of polymer clay and ribbon, this cameo will cause others to take a second look.
I got the mold from an etsy store.  I am not sure if this exact one is still available but there are others!

~After seeing mom's creation, I knew I had to make one, too!  I did mine in sparkly silver and black.  Love it as a brooch, but I also added a hair clip to the back so I could send Abby to school with it. ~Jennifer

Make Your Own Mold

I have spent a small fortune on fimo molds on Etsy over the last 6 months. Then I saw this product and decided to try to make my own. You can bake the fimo in this stuff too! No need to remove it from the mold first!
There are two putties inside. You need to take equal amounts of both. I rolled each into a rope and that made it easy to compare the two.
You only have one minute so you have to move fast. Mix the two together until the color in consistent.
Roll into smooth ball and carefully insert prototype into the putty. I used a flower I had gotten from Pick Your Plum.
Let putty sit with flower embedded for about 20 minutes. The mold will firm up and then you can remove the flower. The putty is flexible so it is easy!
Now you can fill it with chocolate, fimo or anything you want! If you are using fimo, you can bake it at 260 for about 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool. Now you can remove the flower! Be sure and wash the mold after each use. Now I am hunting around the house for anything I can turn into a mold. Think of the possibilities! Diana

Dollar Store Fimo Kitty

Remember the fimo egg I did a few days ago? Well it got me thinking.....I had seen some VERY expensive fimo pieces in an artsy shop a while back. They were made of fimo canes and were fantastic. Snakes, frogs and bears carved by the artist and then covered in bright colored canes.....Well I am no sculptor but I figured if I could cover an egg with canes, could I cover other things to get a similar look as those pricey pieces of art? Using my calico cat as an inspiration, here is my own little piece of "art". I pick up a cheap figurine at the Dollar Tree (below) and made a lot of fimo canes. My one regret is that I played it safe by using too much white and not enough color.
Here is the cat as it came from the store. It was important that the figurine be a simple shape, without much detail. I would be adding a lot of bulk so a skinny cat worked best.
The canes were sliced at 1/8 inch and they stuck to the gloss finish of the cat just fine. After it was all covered, I mushed the canes together to cover the spaces in between. Then I used a small roller to blend the seams until they disappeared.
This took some time. The face was the hardest. The fimo obscured most of the detail of the face so I had to form it with my poor skills....I am no artist for sure! Cooked at 220 for 15 minutes and let cool. Then about three coats of polymer glaze. I can't wait to make another and I am on the look out for other figurines to cover! Diana

Polymer Easter Egg

This craft is amazing. And can you believe it is polymer clay? Over a real egg? From my chickens? I found this video over at Mill Girl and while it did take all day (waiting for drying, not actually crafting), I had a lot of fun doing it.
And it was my first attempt at cane making. I made mine smaller and so they didn't stay as round as the one on the video but I like it all crazy. Diana

Fimo Jewelry

Jenn and Abby spent part of the weekend making cute fimo jewelry. And how cute is this cherry pie necklace. It even comes in it's own pie tin!
See how small this blueberry pie is!
A mug of milk and a chocolate chip cookie.....delicious.
Pink pig charm.
Abby made these! A bee pendant and an M&M charm in honor of her grandfather who loves the candy!
And for her brother Eli, Abby's mom made this stick of dynamite.....go figure. Diana

Peonies

I have a dear friend in South Korea whose American name is Peona. Before meeting her, I never knew anything about peonies. But since then I discovered I have a few in my yard and really love them. So when I saw a fimo mold in the shape of a peony, I snapped it up. To give them a little patina, I washed a bit of mustard colored paint over them.
I made a ring and pendant. These are the exact color of the flowers in my yard too! Diana

Acorn Pendant

Fimo acorn in epoxy pendant. Lots of bubbles too, but I am telling myself it makes it look more hand crafted. This guy is large too. About 1 1/2 by 1 inch. And it's irregular shape (due to a heat gun incident) does appeal to me! Looks a little like artisan glass! I have paid extra for bubbles in glass you know! Diana

Spice Jar

Do you shop at the big warehouse stores like I do? One problem is the size of the packaging. Another is the amount of available cabinet space in my cute but small kitchen. So, to free up some space, I am storing the big container of spice in the basement and instead using these sweet little jars I found.

Not wanting to use paper labels (not able to wash) I made fimo ones instead.

Then I added a little bee to personalize the jar. To get the punched letters and details on the bee to show up, I baked the white fimo and then washed the surfaces with caramel color paint that I then wiped off. Then I sprayed a matte coating on to set the color. Using 6000 glue, I attached the label and bee to the jar. Diana

Fimo Charms

Today's posts is all about cookies......fimo cookies! I seriously love these little guys! A chocolate creme filled sandwich cookie and a crisp little fortune cookie with a bit of the paper fortune peeking out. And these are tiny,
I even put a little creme frosting (fimo) in between the cookies! I found the molds on esty and they were only a fes bucks each. Fimo is so much fun and using these molds make it oh so easy too. Diana

Little Fimo Treasures

I have never played with fimo before but, when I found out you could make cute jewelry with it, I had to try it! I ordered some teeny tiny molds from an Etsy seller and loaded up on different colors (I did forget to get basic white and black though). After a few rejects, I got the hang of a few of the shapes. Check them out! These cute little roses have a lot of detail. You bake them in the mold so they don't lose their crisp edges.
These little Scottie charms have to be cooked out of the mold because I had to put a hole in the top for the metal hook to fit in. I really would like to do a few in black but that will have to wait til I get to the craft store.
Chocolate candies! Love, love, love these!
Here is a view of the sides. You can see how tiny these are in comparison to the ear ring backs.
Ice cream cones. The white soft serve is too translucent so next time I will use solid white. I also need smaller posts cuz these are sooooo small. These were a lot of fun to make. I did have to wear magnifying glasses to see what I was doing! On top of my regular glasses! Cute......... Diana
